Your Donation Today Builds a Memorial Statue to Our Most Holy Mother
In medieval England, there were 64 shrines dedicated to Our Lady and countless churches and monasteries enriched with holy works of art. Their destruction nearly five hundred years ago during the Protestant Reformation has long been a symbol of what can happen during times of religious persecution.
The Art and Reconciliation Trust is a British-based non-profit charity comprised of both Catholic and Anglican (Episcopalian) clergy and laity who wish to make reparation for the desecration of holy treasures throughout history. We need donations please, to make reparation for these offenses by dedicating a Memorial statue in London, England, to Mary Most Holy. After much prayer, the Art and Reconciliation Trust commissioned renowned sculptor Paul Day, (who recently completed a memorial of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother) to erect a statue to Mary Most Holy at the London Shrine of Our Lady of Willesden. For five hundred years (since 939 AD) the Shrine of Willesden was one of the main centers of Marian Pilgrimage in the United Kingdom. The Statue of Madonna was burned in 1538. We believe that this monument to Mary Most Holy will serve as a way of making reparation for the destruction of so much that was holy in the 16th century and indeed around the world in the centuries since.
This monument is not just about reparation but also very much about reconciliation. It is a fervent hope that this monument will also enable us to ask for God's forgiveness and mercy through the intercession of Mary Most Holy. We pray that she will help us move beyond our turbulent past and lead us forward in unity, peace, and reconciliation.
